History

  • On June 15, 2004, the Taiwan Chiropractic Doctors’ Society (TDCS) was registered under the Taiwanese Department of the Interior. They joined the World Federation of Chiropractic of WHO in 1990, with Dr. Huang as the representative.

  • In 1997, there were 8 doctors who earned their foreign chiropractic degree and licensure practicing in Taiwan. They decided to found a Taiwan Chiropractic Doctors’ Society in 1997. Now there are more than 30 chiropractors practicing in Taiwan.

  • Taiwan associate of manual medicine was founded in 2003 by medical doctor wang who licensed Taiwan medical doctor and Chiropractic from US and other Taiwan medical doctors.

  • Dr. Tso-Liang (Julian) Wang, is the found of the Taiwan Chiropractic Medical Association. He holds M.D. and a D.C. from Southern California University of Health Sciences.

  • Since Taiwan Chiropractic Doctors’ Society was founded, they have been working on legitimizing Chiropractic in Taiwan but there are obstacles from the Medical society. The reason why medical society strongly disagrees is mainly because once Chiropractic is legalized they will take parts of profits from the medical field.

Legalization Status

  • Chiropractic was going to be legalized in Taiwan in 2005. Chiropractors who are licensed as Doctor of chiropractic from US, Australia, New Zealand, Canada have been working in Taiwan for years, they decided to go through a legal process to establish it in 2005. At the second reading of the legal process, the medical doctor association came up with some reasons to stop it from happening.

  • In 2018, the Taiwanese Department of Health declared that spinal manipulations are to be considered medical acts.

  • Legislation is currently being work on to allow chiropractic in Taiwan.
