Quick Facts

History

Chiropractic came to the Philippines in 1986 and took 27 years to form a professional chiropractic organization. Before, the population was treated by Folk and Western medicine. Now, there are many chiropractic techniques practiced in the Philippines, but the most common is Diversified. As of December 2020, there are 72 certified chiropractors

Through social media, it has given lots of attention to chiropractic and for people who want to receive chiropractic. It has stirred curiosity.

Chiropractic in the Philippines took its roots from traditional healing practices, like bonesetting and folk remedies, which still maintain recognition as alternative forms of healthcare. In 1983, Dr. Jameson Uy introduced chiropractic to the country, marking a milestone in Philippine healthcare. In 1987, Dr. Ronald Mitchell and Mr. Willie Britt, graduates of Life Chiropractic College West, were invited to the Philippines to deepen the understanding and practice of chiropractic care. In 2013, the Association of Professional Chiropractors of the Philippines (APCP) was formed, becoming the sole government-recognized body representing the chiropractic community in the Philippines.

Legalization Status

Chiropractic in the Philippines is presently monitored and regulated. Oversight is carried out by the Philippine Institute of Traditional and Alternative Health Care (PITAHC), the government organization responsible for supervising chiropractic and other alternative forms of medicine. There are currently 78 certified chiropractors throughout the Philippines, all recognized and certified by PITAHC.

The government approves of chiropractic. However, there has been action/movement towards bringing up DCs within the country instead of out-of-country. Certification for a DC who went to school in the US is unlikely within the next couple of years, a DC practicing in the Philippines has stated.

The citizens agree with chiropractic philosophy as it is coherent with Asian philosophy of health being holistic and natural.

You have to have a license and then apply for a certification. Once you have the certificate, you can practice chiropractic.
